Mumbai: In a night filled with beauty, glamour, and unexpected twists, Krystyna Pyszkova from the Czech Republic emerged as the winner of the 71st Miss World pageant, held at the Jio World Centre in Mumbai. This marked the return of the event to India after 28 years, drawing attention from around the globe.
Despite strong competition, Brazil’s candidate, initially seen as the frontrunner, and India’s Sini Shetty, a crowd favorite, were both eliminated in the critical top 4 round. Sini Shetty’s journey ended after her response in the finale Q&A segment couldn’t surpass the impactful answer given by Lebanon’s contestant, securing her the title of Miss World Asia.
The crowning moment, devoid of the traditional victory speech by the new Miss World, nevertheless stood as the highlight of the world-renowned beauty pageant. Karolina Bielawska, the 70th Miss World, passed on the crown in a ceremony that captivated attendees with its grandeur.
Noteworthy was Nita Ambani’s reception of the Humanitarian Award, celebrated for embodying the pageant’s ethos of “Beauty with a Purpose”. The event also featured performances by Neha Kakkar and Tony Kakkar, adding a Bollywood flair to the proceedings.
Toni Ann Singh, Miss World 2019, dazzled the red carpet, while a controversial moment arose as former Miss World Megan Young adjusted the hair of Botswana’s Lesego Chombo during her stage appearance, sparking discussions.
The decision to omit the last stage of selecting the top 2 contestants before the crowning led to some confusion among the audience, who had overwhelmingly supported India’s Sini Shetty through the rounds.
The Jio World Convention Centre proved to be a fitting venue for the grand spectacle, encapsulating the magnificence of the Miss World pageant. The event’s abrupt conclusion, along with the unique occurrences throughout the evening, will remain memorable for participants and viewers alike.
