Phase 1 of General Elections 2024

The first phase of voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha election commenced today, April 19, at 7 am, with as many as 21 states with 102 constituencies casting their votes.

Reports of shooting by armed miscreants at a polling station in Thamanpokpi under Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat have emerged. No casualties have been reported yet. Official police confirmation awaited.

Reports of violence in Bengal 

Violence was reported during voting in West Bengal. While the BJP alleged that there was stone pelting by TMC workers in Chandamari to prevent people from casting their votes, the Trinamool Congress alleged that BJP members threatened people of Begarkata to stop them from casting their votes.

Two ‘Bastar Fighters’ jawans injured in IED blast in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada

Two jawans of ‘Bastar Fighters’ were injured after a pressure improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxalites went off in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Saturday, police said.

The incident occurred in Kirandul police station area along the border of Dantewada-Bijapur district when a joint team of security personnel was out on an anti-Naxal operation, an official said.

Personnel belonging to the District Reserve Guard (DRG) and Bastar Fighters – both units of the state police – and Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), an elite unit of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), were part of the operation, he said
