Doordarshan’s DD Kisan to introduce AI Anchors in farming sector broadcast

DD Kisan to launch AI anchors who can speak 50 languages

New Delhi: Doordarshan is set to unveil a revamped DD Kisan on May 26, marking a new phase for the channel after nine years of dedicated service to India’s agrarian community. The re-launch will introduce an innovative feature—an AI-powered news anchor, a first for any government TV channel in India.

The new AI anchors, named AI Krish and AI Bhoomi, are designed to operate continuously, capable of delivering news around the clock throughout the year without fatigue. These anchors represent a significant technological leap in broadcasting, being able to present news in fifty languages across both national and international dialects.

These AI anchors will provide comprehensive coverage on a variety of crucial topics for farmers, ranging from agricultural research updates, market trends, weather changes, to government schemes, accessible from every corner of India—from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu and Gujarat to Arunachal Pradesh.

Dr. Anil Kumar, an AI research scientist, commented on the development, saying, “The integration of AI in broadcasting, especially in a sector as vital as agriculture, can transform how information is disseminated. AI Krish and AI Bhoomi are not just technological innovations; they are set to become a 24/7 resource for farmers across the country.”

Professor Meena Gopal, an agricultural economist, noted, “DD Kisan has been pivotal in providing timely and relevant information to our farmers. With AI anchors, the channel can now offer real-time updates in multiple languages, making it an invaluable tool for farmers to make informed decisions quickly.”

Ms. Rita Singh, a rural development expert, shared her insights on the potential impact of the new format. “By broadcasting in fifty languages and leveraging advanced AI, DD Kisan is not just expanding its reach but also enhancing its role in educating and empowering the rural populace. This is a step forward in bridging the information gap faced by the agricultural sector.”

Established on May 26, 2015, by the Government of India, DD Kisan is the only channel in the country dedicated to the farming community. It has been meeting its objective of keeping the farmers well-informed about vital aspects such as weather conditions and market dynamics. The channel also highlights the successes of progressive farmers, promoting a holistic approach to agricultural and rural development.

DD Kisan’s commitment extends to strengthening a three-dimensional concept of agriculture, which encompasses balanced farming, animal husbandry, and plantation, aiming to create a sustainable and informed agricultural community.

As the channel steps into its next chapter with AI technology, it continues to strive towards empowering farmers with the knowledge they need to thrive in an increasingly complex agricultural landscape.
