Amidst a sea of humanity, the New Indian Government is sworn in

New Delhi: The forecourt of the Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President’s Estate in New Delhi was witness to a sea of humanity as the new Indian Government was sworn in by the President of India, Droupadi Murmu today evening. This was one of the largest oath taking ceremonies in the world, with an estimated 8,000 guests in attendance.

Narendra Modi took oath as the Prime Minister for the third time, equalling a feat that only Jawaharlal Nehru achieved in the past. Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, J P Nadda, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Nirmala Sitharaman have also taken oath as cabinet ministers in the new government. Modi and his Council of Ministers officially kicked off the NDA’s third stint, leading a coalition government.

Earlier in the day, the newly-elected Members of Parliament had gathered at Modi’s residence, many of whom will also be included in the Cabinet. 66 ministers are taking oath now.

Who is present at the swearing-in ceremony?

A number of dignitaries from India’s neighbourhood and the Indian Ocean Region were present for the ceremony, including Bangladesh PM Sheikh Hasina, Maldives President Mohamed Muizzu, Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Bhutanese Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay and others.
