Like MS Dhoni’s 2007 T20 World Cup-winning team, Rohit Sharma’s victorious team will take a ride on an open-top bus in a parade from the National Centre for Performing Arts in Nariman Point to the iconic Wankhede Stadium at 4 pm on Thursday evening on 4 July. Before this, the team travelling on a charter plane, will land in New Delhi in the wee hours of Thursday and then be at a breakfast hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The team left Barbados on Wednesday afternoon (IST) and will use a charter plane to fly from Delhi to Mumbai. India beat South Africa by seven runs to win their second T20 World Cup and first ICC title in 17 years. However, their return from Bridgetown was delayed because of the onset of hurricane Beryl. The BCCI arranged for a charter plane for the team.
During an interview, Suryakumar Yadav, who pulled off a stunning boundary line catch to dismiss David Miller, had spoken about the deserted streets in Bridgetown post the World Cup win.
“But if you look outside the window, neeche sab sannata hai (it’s all quiet down below), everyone has gone home after the game. There is no one here, probably, once we reach India, kya mahoul hoga (what will be the atmosphere), we will feel there only. I can see from here that the whole of India is celebrating, everyone is on the streets,” he said.
