Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh Resigns Amid Ongoing Crisis

Manipur Chief Minister N. Biren Singh has officially resigned from his position. He submitted his resignation letter to Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla at Raj Bhavan in Imphal. His decision comes amid the ongoing ethnic violence in the state, which has been a major concern since May 2023.

During his tenure, Singh focused on various development projects and worked closely with the central government. However, the violence between different communities led to widespread unrest, with over 250 lives lost and thousands displaced. Despite efforts to restore peace, the situation remained tense.

This is not the first time Singh has considered resigning. In 2023, he attempted to step down, but protests from his supporters forced him to continue in office. This time, however, his resignation has been formally accepted.

Singh had earlier expressed his regret over the prolonged conflict, assuring people that efforts were being made to bring stability to the state. His resignation marks a significant change in Manipur’s political landscape, and it remains to be seen who will take over as the next Chief Minister.

The state now awaits further developments as leaders work toward a solution to the ongoing crisis.
