A tragic stampede-like incident at New Delhi Railway Station on the night of February 15, 2025, has left 18 people dead and over a dozen injured. The incident took place around 10 PM at platforms 13 and 14, where thousands of passengers had gathered.

The Indian Railways stated that the chaos began when some passengers fainted due to overcrowding, leading to panic and rumors of a stampede. The rush intensified as many travelers were waiting for Prayagraj-bound trains for the Maha Kumbh Mela. The situation was later brought under control after Northern Railways dispatched four special trains to manage the crowd.
Railways Announces Compensation
On Sunday morning, the Indian Railways announced Rs 10 lakh for the families of the deceased, Rs 25 lakh for the seriously injured, and Rs 1 lakh for those with minor injuries.
Investigation and Safety Measures
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed condolences, and Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has ordered a high-level inquiry into the incident. Officials are urged to improve crowd control, ensure better communication of train schedules, and strengthen passenger safety measures.
