Qatar Emir Arrives in India, PM Modi Welcomes Him at Delhi Airport

In a rare gesture, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally received Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani, at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport on February 17, 2025. The Emir is on a two-day visit to strengthen India-Qatar relations, focusing on trade, energy, investment, and technology.

During his visit, the Qatari leader will meet President Droupadi Murmu and hold official talks with PM Modi. A grand ceremonial welcome is planned at Rashtrapati Bhavan. His high-level delegation includes ministers and business leaders, showing Qatar’s commitment to deeper cooperation with India.

This visit follows PM Modi’s 2024 trip to Qatar, where he thanked the Emir for releasing eight Indian Navy veterans. India and Qatar share strong diplomatic and economic ties, with Qatar being a major supplier of natural gas to India and home to a large Indian expatriate population.

The visit is expected to boost bilateral trade, energy security, and strategic partnerships, further strengthening ties between the two nations.
