Gill’s Century, Shami’s Five-Wicket Haul Lead India to Victory

India started their ICC Champions Trophy 2025 campaign with a six-wicket victory over Bangladesh in Dubai.

Bangladesh batted first but struggled as they lost five wickets for just 35 runs. However, Towhid Hridoy fought back with a brilliant century, adding 154 runs with Jaker Ali. Their efforts helped Bangladesh post a total of 228 runs before getting all out. Mohammed Shami was the star bowler for India, taking 5/53 in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah.

In response, India had some early hiccups but remained steady thanks to Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 101. His strong performance guided India to victory with 21 balls to spare.

With this win, India is in a strong position in Group A, which also includes Pakistan and New Zealand. India’s matches are being played in Dubai instead of Pakistan due to security reasons. The top two teams from the group will advance to the semi-finals.

India’s next match is a much-awaited clash against Pakistan on February 23 in Dubai, a game that cricket fans are eagerly waiting for.
