Shaktikanta Das Appointed as Principal Secretary to PM Modi

Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as the Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. His appointment follows his tenure as RBI Governor, which ended in December 2024 after serving for six years.

Das is a retired Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the 1980 batch of the Tamil Nadu cadre. He has held key positions in the Finance Ministry, including Economic Affairs Secretary and Revenue Secretary. His experience in economic policy, financial regulation, and governance makes him a strong choice for the new role.

As RBI Governor, Das played a crucial role in shaping India’s monetary policies, managing inflation, and steering the country’s economic stability during global challenges. He also represented India in international financial organizations like the World Bank, ADB, AIIB, and NDB.

Now, as Principal Secretary to the PM, Das will work closely with PM Modi, providing key policy advice and overseeing government administration. He will serve alongside Pramod Kumar Mishra, who has been in the position since 2019. His tenure will last as long as the Prime Minister remains in office or until further orders.

With his deep knowledge of finance and governance, Das’s appointment is expected to strengthen India’s economic and administrative strategies in the coming years.
