Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has stated that he is willing to step down if it helps Ukraine secure NATO membership and bring peace. This statement came as Ukraine marked the third anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion.
During a press conference in Kyiv, Zelenskyy said, “If you really need me to leave my post for peace and NATO membership, I am ready.” His remarks highlight the importance of NATO for Ukraine’s security amid the ongoing war with Russia.
The U.S. has paused discussions about Ukraine joining NATO, but Zelenskyy insists that NATO membership would guarantee long-term safety for Ukraine. He also mentioned that, without strong security support, over 100,000 European troops might be needed to maintain stability after a ceasefire.
Zelenskyy also expressed his expectations from former U.S. President Donald Trump, saying he hopes Trump will be a strong partner for Ukraine rather than just a mediator between Kyiv and Moscow.
