Russian President Vladimir Putin has officially accepted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s invitation to visit India, and preparations for the visit are in progress. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed this during a conference titled “Russia and India: Toward a New Bilateral Agenda,” hosted by the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC).
During the conference, Lavrov stated, “Arrangements are currently being made for President Putin to visit India.” This visit is expected to further enhance the strategic partnership between India and Russia.
Prime Minister Modi had visited Russia in July 2024, marking his first trip to the country in nearly five years. During that visit, Modi extended an invitation to Putin, which has now been accepted. Lavrov noted, “Now it’s our turn.”
The exact dates for Putin’s visit have not been announced yet. However, diplomatic sources indicate that discussions are ongoing to finalize the schedule. His last visit to India was in December 2021 for an annual summit.
Putin’s visit is significant amid global geopolitical changes and the ongoing India-Russia trade and defense cooperation. The two countries share strong diplomatic relations, and this visit could pave the way for new agreements in trade, energy, and technology.
