Disaster Strikes: Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express Plunges Off Tracks in Odisha

On March 30, 2025, the Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express derailed near Nergundi station in Cuttack district, Odisha. The train was traveling from Bengaluru, Karnataka, to Kamakhya, Assam. Around 11:45 AM, 11 of the train’s coaches went off the tracks, causing a major disruption.

Fortunately, the accident resulted in only one fatality, while eight others were injured. Two of the injured were from Assam. Emergency teams, including the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), quickly reached the site to assist with rescue operations. The injured passengers were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

As a result of the derailment, several trains, including the Dhauli Express, Neelachal Express, and Purulia Express, were diverted. A special train was also arranged to help stranded passengers continue their journey to Kamakhya.

The Bengaluru-Kamakhya Express is a Superfast Express that connects Bengaluru with Kamakhya, covering a distance of approximately 3,025 kilometers. It is known for its comfort, offering AC First Class, AC 2-tier, and AC 3-tier accommodations and a pantry car service. The train usually takes about 53 hours to complete its journey.

This incident highlights the importance of safety and quick response in the event of train accidents. Passengers are advised to remain alert and follow the instructions of authorities during such emergencies.
