Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for stronger India-China relations as both nations mark 75 years of diplomatic ties. He referred to their cooperation as a “Dragon-Elephant tango,” emphasizing the importance of working together for mutual growth and stability.
In a message exchanged with Indian President Droupadi Murmu, Xi highlighted the need for peace, economic collaboration, and diplomatic engagement between the two Asian giants. His statement comes amid ongoing efforts to improve relations following the 2020 border conflict.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi recently stated that a “cooperative partnership” is the “only right choice” for both countries. Over the past year, India and China have taken steps to ease tensions, particularly after the meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping in October 2024.
The Chinese Ambassador to India also reaffirmed China’s willingness to increase imports from India and enhance trade ties. This move aligns with China’s broader strategy to boost regional economic cooperation.
Despite past border tensions, both governments have signaled a commitment to peace. Xi Jinping stressed the importance of stabilizing border areas, fostering economic partnerships, and strengthening bilateral dialogues.
The anniversary of diplomatic relations serves as a reminder of the shared history and future potential between India and China. With global challenges rising, both nations appear keen on moving towards a more cooperative and peaceful relationship.
