PM Modi’s US visit ends on a high note: Quad, UN address, Zelenskyy meeting and tech partnerships take center stage

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his three-day visit to the United States, marking it as a “fruitful” mission that emphasised multilateral cooperation and strategic partnerships. The visit, which ran from September 21 to 24, 2024, featured several high-profile engagements, including the Quad Leaders’ Summit and his address at the United Nations’ “Summit of the Future.”

At the Quad Summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden in Delaware, the focus remained on Indo-Pacific security, economic cooperation, and technological advancements. Modi, along with leaders from the US, Japan, and Australia, reiterated their commitment to a free and open Indo-Pacific, countering rising regional tensions. The meeting underscored India’s growing role in promoting peace and stability in the region.

One of the key highlights of Modi’s trip was his address at the UN’s “Summit of the Future.” The Prime Minister called for urgent reforms in global institutions, stressing that peace and sustainable development are critical for a prosperous future. He emphasized the importance of using technology responsibly and proposed stronger digital governance to ensure global cooperation. “Success of humanity lies in our collective strength, not in the battlefield,” Modi stated, urging the global community to embrace collaborative frameworks.

During the visit to the UN, PM Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the sidelines of the UN Summit and discussed the situation in Ukraine.

He also met with the CEOs of leading American tech firms, discussing investment opportunities in India’s booming technology sector. These meetings aimed to strengthen bilateral ties, especially in the areas of semiconductors, clean energy, and digital infrastructure.

The Prime Minister also addressed a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in New York, where he hailed India as a “land of opportunities” and emphasized his government’s goal of driving global growth. His message resonated with the 50,000-strong crowd, which has become a vital element in strengthening US-India relations.

Modi’s trip follows his earlier visit to the US in June, during which defense, space, and semiconductor agreements were signed, further solidifying ties between the two nations. This visit, however, focused on global governance, economic collaboration, and enhancing India’s position on the world stage.

The Prime Minister’s engagements are expected to yield long-term benefits for India’s geopolitical and economic interests, with key partnerships being bolstered in defense, technology, and clean energy sectors.
