U.S. Vice President JD Vance Visits India to Boost Trade and Ties with the Modi Government

U.S. Vice President JD Vance has arrived in India for a four-day official visit starting April 21, 2025. He is joined by his wife Usha Vance and their three children. The visit is aimed at strengthening the relationship between India and the United States through discussions on trade, defense, and technology.

During his visit, JD Vance is expected to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. The two leaders are likely to discuss a new trade agreement that could significantly increase the current trade value of $190 billion to $500 billion by the year 2030. This potential deal is considered a major step toward deeper economic cooperation between the two countries.

Apart from trade, the visit also focuses on boosting defense and tech partnerships. Discussions include investment opportunities for American companies in India’s growing defense sector. This collaboration comes amid rising global concerns about China’s influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

The trip also has a personal and cultural side. JD Vance’s wife, Usha Vance, who is of Indian origin, brings a strong connection to the country. The family will be visiting Jaipur and Agra, including a stop at the iconic Taj Mahal. Usha, a former law clerk and Yale graduate, is the first Asian-American and the first Hindu Second Lady in U.S. history.

JD Vance’s India visit is seen as a crucial step in preparing for President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit later this year. The visit is expected to include a major Quad summit, where India, the U.S., Japan, and Australia will discuss strategic issues in the region.

This diplomatic tour not only highlights the growing bond between India and the U.S., but also reflects the importance of cultural ties and shared global goals in today’s political landscape.
